IU has returned to grace her loyal listeners with a beautifully aesthetic MV for the laid-back, easy-listening “BBIBBI”. The dreamy rhythm of the song is a cover, however, as fans eagerly responded to her lyrics about being independent and unbothered by dark side of her stardom: the judgement and constant attempts to grasp a piece of her. IU seems to be making fun of those who follow rumors and scandal, calling out the netizens who are “always looking for the flaws, hashtagging” and singing about wanting people to “please keep the line” between fair and greedy. Her signature sweet vocals and indie-tone reveal nothing of the serious side of her lyrics.
The 25-year-old singer first debuted in 2008 with her debut album Lost and Found, and gained mainstream success with her follow-up albums. She has ventured into acting as well as hosting, and remains one of Korea’s most beloved solo artists, collaborating with household names like GDragon and Zico in the last few years. Her last studio album came out in spring of 2017. Palette sold over 80 000 copies in Korea with sales in Japan as well. Her following EP, A Flower Bookmark 2, was released a year ago, selling nearly 50 000 copies and marking her last full release. You can watch the music video here.
